St. Louis

Blues

This time in St. Louis

Tonight coming off a big 5-1 win in Minnesota, the Blues return home to play the same team that five different Blues forwards scored in, on Wednesday. Tonight, the third different goaltender will likely get his first appearance in the 2010 preseason, Ty Conklin.
The St. Louis Blues will be going for a sweep in the preseason "series" against MN. Hopefully todays lineup will be able to pull out a win similar to Wednesday nights.
At Scottrade Center tonight the Wild will be seeking revenge. The Blues have been involved in two separate fights in both of their preseason games, will that stat keep its life tonight? Im in to watch, just dont be stupid and get hurt. It will be a physical one, great game to watch.

Excelling at the Excel.

The St. Louis Blues faced off against Nick Backstrom and Mikko Koivu of the Wild out in Minneapolis today. The Blues picked up their first preseason win in convincing fashion tonight winning 5 to 1.
Both teams played most of their starters, except for the Blues new tender Jaroslav Halak. The replacement goalie Ben Bishopplayed today in MN and personally I was very exited to see this guy play, I heard that when he played for Peoria last year he did a great job but the Blues front office wouldnt give him a chance to play up.
After a minute into the game I thought it was going to be another one of those high scoring games where there is no D and the goalies have and insanely low save percentage, but after Bishop let that first shot go he just kept getting better as the game progressed, I hope to see this 6 7 monster of a goalie play again for the Blues, but this time in the regular season.
The true Blues starters played as us as fans would expect in a 5-1 victory. Brewer, Backes, Boyes played and skated like they owned the place tonight, all was good with there play except for a stupid hooking penalty that Eric Brewer took early in the first. Besides these Blues veterans I also liked the play of few up and comers including Ian Cole, Graham Mink, and Nikita Nikitin. Good job boys.
Another thing I would like to stress is tonights power play lines, 3 of the 5 St. Louis goals were scored with a man advantage, the puck movement was very precise with few mistakes.
As you all know the Blues have a day off before playing the Wild again, but in St. Louis at the Scottrade Center. If the Blues can win in just about every category as they did tonight, the outcome will likely be near the same.
I am glad my real home team could pull out the win in my now home town Minneapolis, I would like to see another one of these solid games on Friday, the only thing I would like to point out is the Blues squad has been involved in a fight in both of there games so far this year, lighten up guys.
Great Game!!! Victory!!! Go Blues!!!

My home team happens to play my other home team twice in the same week, sweet.
Wild Vs. Blues today and Friday, once in Minneapolis and once in St. Louis.
I will be in attendance tonight in MN as Jaroslav Halak will be out of todays line-up which is as follows:
St. Louis still seeks there first preseason win after a 3-1 loss at Scottrade last night against Colorado.
Ben Bishop and Jake Allen the goalies for tonights game instead of normal starter, Canadiens, Jaroslav Halak, this will give the youngsters a chance to show the organization what they are made of, personally I hope they stand out and put up a fight to see who is boss, although Halak will be the seasons true number 1.
As you also see centers Jay McClement and David Backes will be playing today after sitting yesterday preseason opener. Ian Cole also making his Blues debut today with his defensive partner Roman Polak
I say a good matchup between these two Midwest teams, if the Blues can fix the problems with last nights game and keep up the intensity on both ends we should come out with it. Puck drops at 7 in Minneapolis, be there.
Go Blues!!! Beat my OTHER team.

Game Over. But does it really mean anything Story-edit

Preseason games dont count for a reason, now switching sports the Indianapoilis Colts for example have now gone 4 straight preseasons without a win, and there team has yet to not make the playoffs with a sizable gap in the division. Now it was great to see how the team would preform, and there were many things that I am a little bit weary of, but also things that i would love to see continue into regular season. So does this 3-1 loss to Col. really matter. Real Men will rebound.
Good, Likes, Keepers, and what not:
Faceoffs: The Blues had the uncanny ability today to just win faceoffs winning 66 percent of them. Center Dave Scatchard I was very impressed with his poise and focus on the rink today just about pulling off all 11 of his faceoffs but lost one of those in the third.
Shots: There was very aggressive play in the offensive end today and with Brad Boyes up there with the charge some of these 34 shots would have hit the back of the net.
Hits: 28 to 16 in favor of the Blue Crew, the D was playing very physical, some ending up in penalties, but the knocks definitely got to the Colorado team, and if anybody saw that fight which threw out 4 or 5 penalties to both sides, well it was a good sign, playing hard for the win, the want to was obviously evident in this one.

The shorty: Only goal scored today was by the Swede, Patrick Burglund.
Bad, Ugly, Fixable, the Stuff coach scratches his chin about:
Penalties are always and issue: Even with the fight there were a combined 44 penalty minutes recorded, and around 30 in a single minute. Being physical=Good, Getting caught=Bad
Goaltending hate to say it: Well with the Goaltending fixed, for now Jaroslav Halak played his debut, which was not his best game to say the least, but once he gets settled in he will be like the upset wall like last years playoffs.
Too Much Celebration: Well normally when you score a goal in NHL you get over it, move on, and keep playing but midway in the second after Patrick Burglund's shorthanded goal, well just about half a minute later in fact the Aves responded, not something the Blues squad would like to be falling back on. Everyone learns.
The Blues are men and the preseason to tell only counts if they let it get to them. So gain back the momentum and get ready for the real deal.
GO BLUES!!! Post a comment what do you like or dislike about this game.

Preseason??? Story-edit

You know I have been asked by my family, friends, and colleagues what the true purpose of preseason is and I just stood there thinking of the answer. Its about adjusting right? Maybe getting back up to speed, evaluating lines, putting together a roster? Isnt there something called practice? These preseason games give everyone including the slightly bias referees a turn to play against a team that is rebuilt or re-organized, sure getting in the groove and skill sharpening is good, but has Jaroslav Halak played against the Aves in a Blues jersey? No. And being able to the mindset of NHL hockey is hard to grasp, however in doing so it increases awareness of everyone, and from the fans perspective its fun to watch.
Tonight the Blues debut of Jaroslav Halak, previous Canadien all star will be good for everyone to judge the fallout or fate of the season, with additions and deficits the Blues need to get chemistry back, and with all those fans watching rookies watch out for that skate lace.
All in all the preseason is fun and enjoyable for everyone, a time for fans and players to gain the trust of the team. Go Blues, Aves are no problem for Halak, take care of them out there.

Make the fans feel good Story-edit

The Blues will open there preseason at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
This offseason the Blues get rid of speedster Paul Kariya, but acquire much needed Goaltender support in previous Canadian started Jaroslav Halak.
St. Louis against the Aves in the past year are not looking very good, at 0-4 head-to-head, the Blues have been outscored by 13, but not to worry this new team should be able fill the gaps and hole of last seasons mishaps.
A win tomorrow would give the Fans and Team Members of the St. Louis organization a huge boost to get started in the 2010-11 season. The Blues roster this year was made to win, and win they will do.
Go Blues!!! Start off the season well, all up to you Halak.

The St. Louis Blues will start there pre season off against the Aves on Sept. 21st
